You don't automatically keep your top four or six draft picks though bergie you keep any 4 or 6 players you won't so you arent restricted by the draft.

sorry, let me clarify what i meant. What i meant was that thats most likely who's going to be kept by most people.

Also, I incorrectly stated that we should pick the players before the draft not, after the season.

Lastly, has everyone joined this forum yet? we need to vote on this thing. February is around the corner, and quickly comes spring training and draft day in April. Who ever is going to be in the league should be here.

I want to make my stance understood. While I am in general against the keeper league, there are ways to make it work. Secondly, I would like to say, I will go with whatever the league chooses to do.

I think the best way to pull it off is to redraft. None of us made trades and such with keeper league in mind. Also, I would propose a 2 year keeper limit. To keep the league fair. In other words, if I drafted Ortiz this year, I could keep him for next year. But, the year after he is back in the draft.

Also, I like the randomness of the draft, it makes it interesting. So for this it would be good to have an NBA style draft, playoff teams go in order from worst record to best record, but the non playoff teams have a draft. This would prevent people from tanking thier seasons to go for A-Rod or someone when he is up for redrafting.

Also, I would say a small number of keepers, with limits. Something like you can keep one infielder, one outfielder, and two pitchers (one relief, one starter).

With this, it is very important to veto trades. We should be able to veto through this forum, with 75% of the leauge needed to veto. Can't have one bullshit trade ruin multiple seasons.

There needs to be alot of discussion about this, changing an American Icon requires thinking things through.

Well it's gonna be a keeper league. The vote stands so there's no further discussion about that.

Now we vote on how many we keep. Go.

I'll say 5. Maybe 4.

And Hill, we don't get to keep players from last season, so those trades don't matter.

I like the idea of vetoing in this forum, though. That way the voting isn't anonymous and everyone knows how you voted. And good call on the 75% thing, because last year vetos were retarded, and so many legit trades got shut down because 4-5 teams were abusing their veto power and being whiny little bitches. People were even vetoing when players got injured AFTER the trade was accepted! Madness!

Devin, how can you say the keeper league is happening? We haven't voted yet. Not everyone is on here we should have an actual vote.

The vote already happened if you were paying attention.

there are 2, possibly 3 if you count hill, that are against the keeper league.

So quite frankly, you lose. Good day sir.

I'm still on the fence as to the whole keeper league...

First off, I don't like the idea of selecting players directly after the season ends. Too many things could go wrong in an offseason that could potentially ruin someone's team by doing so (death, bad trade, offseason surgery, signing with a horrible team, sudden retirement, etc.).

Second, I vote for four players to be kept (with no restrictions like only being able to select one infielder, one outfielder, etc.) and five at the max. Six is just a little excessive.

Third, being able to keep a player for only two seasons is retarded. By doing so, it just defeats the purpose of having a keeper league. For instance, say you draft some young talent pretty high in the draft that has yet to play a full season in the hopes that they will develop into a star player for future seasons (i.e. Jacoby Ellsbury, Ian Kennedy). However, if you can only keep players for two seasons, then you would avoid doing this.

Fourth, I still think that the previous regular season standings should determine draft order. Randomizing every draft would mean that the first place team would still have a chance for a first overall draft pick, which is idiotic.

I'll vote for 5 players kept, declared at the beginning of the season, maybe 1-2 weeks before the draft - and draft order based on league standings is alright. And no restrictions on which players, cause that's stupid.

And only having a keeper league for 2 years completely defeats the purpose of a keeper league. Completely.

I still don't understand the big deal about switching:

It's hard to manage!
- I'm the only one who has to manage it so don't worry about it.

Once a team gets good players they'll be good forever!
- 5 players x 12 teams = 60 players, and everyone knows that the top 60 players in MLB are always exactly the same year after year....

The first draft means more than the others!
- A little bit, yeah. So put more effort into it.

Why can't the League just stay the same, wahhh!?
- If it stayed the same it would be an 8 team 10x10 league that counts errors and ejections. Hardcore players play keepers, and we're fuckin' hardcore!

I vote for 4 players, draft order based on standings and players selected before draft

I vote for 5 players, draft order based on standings and the players are selected at the latest before the draft, but every team should have the choice of declaring earlier for offseason trading purposes. Also just to clarify this before it becomes a problem with anyone, the FIRST draft for the keeper league will be random, it doesn't make any sense to model it after last years standings, then seasons after that will be based off of previous standings.

Yeah I'm not saying that you can't select your players at any point in the off-season, but you shouldn't HAVE to if you don't want to.

Also, can we trade draft picks mid season? If so, are we personally responsible to remember which picks we traded for or is Devin gonna keep track of them all through the season? And how is this gonna work exactly, since there is a set limit as to how many players you have on a team. Like say next year I have 2 first round picks. Will I just be docked a last round pick or can I only keep say like 4 players (if we have to select 5).

If you declare your keepers early and you trade for draft picks you have to post the trade in here and I'll keep track of it cause i'm a huge nerd.

I guess keeping 4 wouldnt be that bad, but 5 is probably better. Most keepers that have standard yahoo rosters keep 6.

HOW SICK IS THAT?! WE GET TO TRADE DRAFT PICKS!!! CAUSE IT'S A KEEPER!!!
