PostSubject: Amendment: In regards to playoffs and draft order.   Wed Jun 04, 2008 4:00 pm

I propose that, as i have discussed with other managers, draft should be by end of season record for those who make the playoffs, but do consolation playoff for the #1 pick. This prevents people from intentionally tanking to get the #1 pick as they will want to have the favorable 1st round bye in the consolation if they dont make the playoffs. Also, this prevents Matt from getting all the #1 picks...

just messin there big guy. So draft would start as follows

1#- Winner of consolation
2#- Consolation runner up
3#- 3rd in consolation
..
..
..
7- 6th place regular season
..
..
..
12- 1st place regular season

you get the idea. I think this would be a good way to draft, as i am not a fan of any draft lottery.

Provide some suggestions. This is an important issue.

the only problem i have with this is it screws over the guy in last place or any other place for that matter, whos trying.

see, its a paradox. you have that system in place to prevent guys from tanking on purpose. so then in theory, the guy in last place was trying. so what then? he's not given the best pick to improve his team but 6th pick. and the guy who almost made the playoffs gets the best pick.

i think my system works best if instead of your amendment, cory, we add that a manager must have all his roster spots filled and playing, unless a spot will hurt the manager's chance of winning. (Like not putting a pitching to win ERA or WHIP, or a hitter to win AVG, or a player on the DL).

since i check my team daily and everyone's team weekly, it wouldnt be a problem to check, and then someone would just have to check my team.

it wouldn't be as difficult as it seems, and it makes sense, the worst team gets the best chance to improve itself

also with cory's system try this senario:

manager's in sixth place, but he doesnt think hes going to win the championship? why play through the playoff, only not to win and get 7th pick or worse? he can do just bad enough to get 7th place or eighth place or even ninth place to get on of the better picks. because, he cant win this year, why not give up and improve his chances for next year.

so either way the managers can fuck over the sysytem.

the reverse order of placement all the way through just makes the most sense.

I propose an NBA like draft lottery. Any team not in the playoffs is entered. I propose 25% chance to win for the last place teams, and so on following the NBA format. It at least limits tanking, while still offereing good chances to the last place team. Also, it gives chances to get first pick to 2nd from last and such as well.

the NBA draft lottery is the most flawed drafting system in any sport. I think we can keep it without doing a consolation bracket as long as we are sure the teams are not purposely tanking.

the point is to improve the competitive nature fo the playoffs. in my years as a fantasy manager i have seen countless times where the person in last place for the regular season wins the consolation bracket. idk. in my mind it gives those of us who dont make the playoffs something to fight for.

Yeah I agree with Cory's idea. It does prevent the lower teams from tanking and gives them a reason to continue playing. I think there's a post somewhere on this forum by Deuce like back in February about this same thing

And the lottery idea is just an incentive for teams to tank because they have the chance for a better lottery pick (i.e. the 2006-2007 Celtics). The only reason the NBA still has it is because it's just another night for them to get air-time on ESPN during the offseason. It's a complete joke and everyone inside the NBA knows it.
